Thrift store finds

Let's face it, thrifts are amazing. Not only are they a wealth of fun and unusual items, they can carry a lot of cool craft items. As a cross sticher, I am always on the look out for other peoples work litter in these places, and this trip I found a few cool things.
This was in one of the second to last thrift stores I went into last sunday. It was the only cross stich I fould this trip, and I jsut love how simple it is. It was really nice to see something rather old, ( I can't remember what the date on it was, but the fact that isn't adia cloth and was 75$, but I am gonna go with old.)

This was at the last thrift store we were in, and it was just sitting on the floor. It too was 75 dollars, and someone had to have folded this thing. Is it not neat?

So I guess I should get to what I really found to do from my three hour trip through thrift store madness? Well, I got out really light this time around, only 3$ in the hole, with a mug, a frame (A furture blog post) and 60 cent cross stich kit. It was from Denmark and  was a little bit of a pain to read, but I got throught it. I put the two together and the rest is this blog post. This craft wasn't bad at all, as far as kits go. Very easy and run of the mill kit. The one thing I would love to point it out was the fact that the card folded out three ways, and the middle was the window was the best. I have made cross stich cards before and the half fold cards are annoying because you have to cut a piece of card stock or card board to cover the back of your stiches. This design, you didn't have to, just had to glue down the left side and let it dry. Well, not a bad craft for 60 cent. See you next time and happy crafting!

P.s. Here is some more close ups are the cards. They can out really neat, even though I messed up reading the pattern.

Back, hopefully more often.

Well, it has been a crazy few months. I haven't really been able to do as much as I like, but now I should be able to do more now. So I have been having a little more fun with the half marbles, like what I did for the mirrior. Well, here is what I came up with.

I thought it came out alright. And you can see what I should be posting soon....

Well, it was nice to check in. I hope to do more in the furture!
Happy Crafting!

Sorry about long time no see.

I have been bad. Really bad. This was my new years promise to myself and I blew it.

I am going to get back on track. I been working, or studying for....well, months.

So I am just going to have to get in the habit again. Sorry it has been so long, and I have been making stuff since I was gone.

I will have a big update Thursday, hopefully. Friday at the latest.

Until then.

A little review

I like Kids kits. I won't lie.

I really enjoyed them as a kid, but there are some that used to drive me mad. They would either not give you any room to make any mistakes or make it so you need an adult to help with every step.

So I decide to pick a few up and see if things were really as bad as they were.

I picked up An American Girl Tech Case. There is a link to it:

This kit was great. It was so easy to do and came out just like the picture, which used to be the most important thing to me.

I will try and review a few more of the kits. The American girl kits seem to be a good fit, and I have done a few now, and they are like the perfect kit. Not to hard but not so easy that you feel like you are wasting your time.

A Looking Glass

I couldn't think of what to do this week, and then I saw them.

I was at Micheals for their dollar day sale, and I noticed the small marbles that you use to fill vases. They were only a dollar for a bag and all I could think of is how can I use theses.

After wondering down the wood alise I found a mirrior that was unfinnished and it all clicked.

So this is a project I would like to call the looking glass.

What you will need:

  • A mirrior with 3 inches frame around it- I used an unfinnished one, but you could use one that is finnished and already painted.
  • Hot glue gun and Glue
    Foam brush
  • Paint
  • Paper plate
  • 4 to 5 bags of vase filler- I used different sizes, clearly the large, midrange and lastly the mini marble size, but you may use any size you want, which will change how many bags of marbles you will need. I ran out half way through and had to make a run to get more. It is so much easier to just keep gluing.
  • A large work place

How to:

If you can remove the mirrior from the frame, do so.

If you have an finnished mirrior, you can skip this step-Paint your mirrior, using the paper plate to hold the paint and let it dry. (I also used the plate to set my glue gun down on when I wasn't using it.)

Open up some of the marbles and began to place them. If you are doing variying sizes like I did, you want to do the large first and then fill in with each size in a decreaing order.

Began to glue down the first around of marbles. It is nice when you get into a groove placing them down and then moving the mirrior as you go.

After you finnish the first round, began to fill around the frame. I found it easier to start doing the top of the frame, then doing around the sides, so you didn't have a fear of braking off any of your hard work.

Let the glue dry and hang on your wall.

I loved this project! It was a lot of fun, even thought I burned my fingers a few times. It only took two hours and cost about 20$ to do.

Well, I hope you all enjoyed this, and happy crafting!

A Lovely Flower Pot

I like spring. It has been in the 80's out in here in California and I have been getting spring Fever. So I decide to act out on my feelings of Spring, and came up with this fun way to keep your pens!

If you are like me, I can't find a pen when ever I need one. So I decide to make a flower pot full of pens, that way I can't lose these sweet flowers.

So You will need:
Pens-Of course.
A Flower Pot
Paper Cut outs (I used a cricut to make mine)
Brads (I used Star shaped, but you can use any ones)
Paint
Brush
Stuffing (you can use anything, I used packing from a box that we got for Xmas. Another good one would be beans.)
Floral Wire
Floral tape
Hole punch

1)Paint the flower pot. I did two coats, but anything that covers the pot.
2)Cut out your shapes for the flowers, centers, and leaves. Punch holes for the brads though each piece, center for the flower, centers, and the leaves through the edge.
3)Stuff the pot once it is dry.
4)Wrap the wire around the pen, leaving a loop at the end for the flowers
5)Wrap the floral tape up and around the pen and wire.
6) Put the flower together, and attach through the loop.

And you are done!

A Yarn Review

I love yarn.

I have so much of it floating around my house that I thought it would be fun that to talk about a scarf I made awhile ago.

This one was made out of a yarn from Micheals by the name of Dewdrop. It is 6.99 a skein and it has sparkers through it.

With one Skein I made this scarf using a size 11 needles.

Getting ready for school so not a lot of time left for crafting! I will have to make time.

There is a close up of the scarf.
